Auburn UMC’s Studies on Racial Reconciliation

We are grateful that you are interested in having a conversation on Racial Reconciliation.

Please view our two opportunities below, and register using the contact form at the bottom of this page!

Conversation on Racial Reconciliation using the book, White Fragility: Led by Cory Smith

Wednesdays, 7:00pm, beginning July 8

My desire for this Zoom study is to create a safe space where we can learn and process our thoughts and feelings together. I love Parker Palmer’s “Circle’s of Trust Touchstones” and plan to refer to these as a type of covenant for shaping our conversation together. You can find these Touchstones at this link:

In our group we will examine Robin DiAngelo’s important book White Fragility as well as resources from Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter from the Birmingham Jail.”  Please know that if you do not have these works before our first class, you will be fine as we will spend our fist meeting with an introduction and outline for our conversation together.

We will conduct this study over Zoom, and will send you the meeting link once you have registered.

ONE Auburn Study using the book The Sun Does Shine: Led by Kelli Hitchman-Craig and Lindsey Middleton

Wednesdays at 4pm, beginning July 15

As part of Mayor Ron Anders’ ONE Auburn initiative, Kelli and Lindsey are leading a book study on the book The Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray Hinton. Please register using the form at the bottom of this page, and we will send you the Zoom link!

From the Alabama-West Florida Conference: Vital Conversations

In Bishop David Graves’ statement released on June 4, 2020, he charged us all to listen to one another. “I am asking all people of the Alabama-West Florida Conference to listen and stand in solidarity with people of color!” So that we may live into this charge, we will be providing several opportunities to take part in two different Vital Conversations via Zoom from July 13-25.

Please visit this link to read more about the two topics provided, as well as where to register. Registration for these conversations IS REQUIRED. To do so, you must click on the date and time you would like to sign up for, and it will prompt you from there.
