We hope this prayer guide, written by members of our congregation and based on Ephesians 3:14–21, will be a blessing to you as we focus on the blessed assurance of what God has done, is doing, and will do in and through the ministry of Auburn UMC.

“For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:14–21 NIV)


DAY 1

Gracious and most loving God, we kneel before you and give thanks that we are yours. Strengthen us as we stoop that we might stand in your power and walk in step with you. As we fix our knees to the earth in prayer, would you plant us firmly in your steadfast love? Root us amongst the communion of saints that walk alongside us and have gone before us. As we kneel in prayer, humble us with a clear and beautiful vision of the depths of your unwavering mercy and unending love for us all that we might overflow that love to a world in need of it. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 2

Dear Lord, thank you for making us all—every family, one family—under you. Regardless of our circumstance or situation, we are called to care for each other in your name. Help us as brothers and sisters in Christ, to live into the challenge to serve one another, to serve every family. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 3

How we thank you and praise you, O God, that we are not only born into the human race, but by faith in Christ, we are born into your heavenly family and are a part of the new creation in Christ. Thank you for this blessing you have poured over us. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 4

Oh God, you know our names. Unto you, all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you, no secrets are hidden. And you still call us by our name. You know us. Even better than we know ourselves. And yet, you still call our name. Standing by the door of our hearts, you gently knock and gently call our name. As individuals and as a church, we pray that you would open our ears that we might hear and open the door of our hearts to worlds and opportunities unknown. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.  David Housel

DAY 5

Dear God, we pray humbly before you in awe of what you have done, are doing, and will do in our lives even when we falter in our faith and don’t have your vision of the future. We pray thankfully for your loving arms that pick us up when we fall and wrap us up in the warmth of your unending love, helping us make it through each day. We pray earnestly for your continued strength to help us fight evil in this world and within ourselves and give us compassion and empathy for others that we may let your light shine in all we say and do. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 6

Dear Lord, we thank you for all of the glorious riches you lavish upon us when we are in your will. Help us remember that those are the riches of the Spirit and not of this world. We praise you for freely bestowing upon us the treasures of spiritual blessing, forgiveness, redemption, grace, and peace. As we embrace these gifts, we are reminded that all are part of your kingdom, the riches that make us whole in you. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.  Karen Hopkins

DAY 7

Our loving heavenly Father, we ask for your guidance to strengthen us to understand our inner selves. In these times of disagreement and tension in our country, we pray for strength to see others that may think, act, and look different than us in the light of your love. Father, so often we know in our hearts what is right, but we are not strong enough to follow our knowledge. Please forgive us when we fall short of your will. Open our hearts and minds and strengthen us to grow in your grace. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 8

Lord our God. We come to you as your humble people. We pray that you grant us the power to fill our spirits with your Word and life. We ask that in all things we have the power to show your light through love and grace. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

DAY 9

Loving and merciful Father, thank you for dwelling in our hearts. Transform our inner beings so we can become more like you each day. Thank you for filling us with your love. Through your Spirit, use us to be a light for you. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 10

Dear heavenly Father, we invite your Holy Spirit to be in our hearts, our minds, and our every thought. Forgive us for times when we have not sought you with our whole heart. As we draw near to you and seek to be more like Christ, we ask that you strengthen us by dwelling in every aspect of our daily lives. Do not let us be distracted or misled by the events or challenges of each day, but rather build our faith and guide our lives and actions to the path of your glory. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 11

Heavenly Father, we confess that we lack faith due to our own sinfulness. We pray that you will help us have faith at least the size of a mustard seed, a faith that goes beyond knowledge and moves us to action. We pray that such faith will provide in our hearts a warm place for Christ to dwell and will provide us with inner strength to believe in him and love as he would have us to love. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 12

Thank you, God, for the love you have so graciously poured into our hearts. Please continue to help our love grow and take root, allowing us to use your words to pour love and grace into others. As we walk with you and grow in our faith, help us to continue to establish our relationship with you. May all the glory and praise be in your name. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 13

Father God, you are the one who sits on high yet reaches way down low. Only you have the power to bring us together. And together we pray for understanding of a love that has no boundaries in order that our wrecked world can see your light in us, and have hope. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 14

Father, we kneel before you, praying with the strength that comes from being a part of your holy people. You have declared us a holy people, not because of our own merits, but because of the power you have given us through your Spirit. Thank you for the incredible, immeasurable love you have given us. May we, as your holy people, share the wide and long and high and deep love of Christ with everyone you place in our path today. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 15

Holy One, we thank you for bending close so we may be able to grasp the expanse of your love for us. As your family here on earth, help us to be aware of your love that surrounds us, like a child swaddled in a warm blanket. With the fullness of Christ dwelling in our hearts, steady our feet so that we may walk calmly the path before us. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 16

O Great Love, as we release all the unknowns that have needled our minds during this season of life, turn our hearts instead to how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. For the many ways that we might seek to quantify this love for us and for all of your creation, draw our hearts into its gift of inexhaustibility, into the rest that waits for us there. As we strive to make ourselves worthy of this love, remind our hearts that we do not earn it, we simply receive it. And for all the times that we forget to see our neighbors through your eyes, empower our hearts to receive one another in your gracious name and in this boundless love. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 17

God, we praise you as the source of our hope. We thank you for your gift of Jesus, showing us the fullness of your love. Thank you for the peace we find in you in the midst of challenging times. God, help us be willing and able to share your love with others. Even in our differences, God, we can know the fullness of your love. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Lord, your love is great and beyond our understanding. We thank you for your love we see working through the many missions and ministries of our church. Show each of us, Lord, how your love may shine through us to others we meet. Through our church may people see the boundless limits of your love. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 19

Lord, help us in times of trouble to remember that your love is one that surpasses all knowledge. Help us remember, that when we are lost and lack understanding, you continue to love us as your children, even if we feel we don’t deserve it. When we stumble blindly and turn from you, you love us more than we could ever fathom, and you always call us back into your presence. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 20

Lord, fill us completely with the experience of your goodness and grace that we have no room for evil thoughts. May we be so filled with your love that we see the good in others. Fill us with overflowing gratitude for all that you have done in our lives and will continue to do so that we may look towards a future in heaven with you, and seek to bring your kingdom to our temporal world. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! DAY 21

Dear heavenly Father, we pray to you in need of your completeness. We know we fall short of living out the Christlike life you desire. Help us to humble ourselves by relinquishing our selfish ambitions and materialistic ways. Open our hearts to be more unconditionally loving and forgiving while promoting peace and justice for all of your children. Through the fullness of your Holy Spirit, transform us from earthly brokenness to become more whole like you. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!
