Ministry Architects Report
Planning for our Youth: Ministry Architects Final Report
Parents, D-Group Leaders, and Youth Stakeholders,
We wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who participated in the Ministry Architects listening groups on May 2-4. We had a great turn out, and we are excited about the report that the Ministry Architects team presented to our youth ministry. Because the nature of this process is about listening and sharing, we wanted to make sure to share the report with you, our stakeholders. You will find the full report below, but here is a summary of its findings.
In the Ministry Architects’ report, we were shown a few things we already knew! We have a large number of students attending our D-Groups, Winter Retreat and Sweat Week, and everyone is at a “buzz” about the AUMC Youth Ministry. We have a great asset in the location of our church, and we have a great emphasis on relationships, among other things. We are in celebration of this positive feedback we have received about our ministry!
With the encouragement that our strengths bring, we face our challenges. We have learned that our communication and marketing strategies with parents can be improved, and the communication of our vision is often more reactive than proactive. Our parents and youth have agreed that the age range at MYF creates a difficult environment for learning and have requested a division of age groups. Also, with our large need for volunteers throughout the year, our volunteer recruiting and equipping process can be improved upon. Among others, our ministry has been shown the need for a formalized governance to help plan, advocate for, tell the stories of, be a sounding board for, and cheer lead for the ministry and staff.
The report continues with recommendations on how to address and implement different strategies to guide and build our youth ministry to its sustainable potential and concludes with a proposed timeline of action.
Our youth program has been a staple in the Auburn community for many years. We hope that by taking steps to learn our strengths and challenges and by facing those challenges, we will continue to be a strong ministry in our community for many years to come. We are thankful for the commitment our youth, youth parents, D-Group leaders and volunteers have made by participating in our programs, and we want you to know we are committed to building a Christ-centered, sustainable ministry that equips our youth to impact their world.
