Abundant Life (formerly called Single Parents) welcomes any single parent, regardless of the age of his/her children. The class incorporates a rotation of topical studies and biblical books. Members plan frequent get-togethers to include the children. This class meets in Room B231 and the contact people are Don and Valerie Carson (821-5996) and Nancy Kickliter (821-4603).
Acts II is a class that is targeted to parents of youth; however, it is open to all adults. Besides fun and applicable lessons, the class provides fellowship opportunities for parents to become acquainted. This class meets in Room A107 and the contact person is Stacy Roland (821-7767).
Family Essentials is a class geared toward married couples beginning their families. Topics include marriage enrichment, parenting and Bible study. This welcoming, enthusiastic group is dedicated to creating lasting friendships in Christ. This class meets in Basement Room A01 and the contact persons are Debbie Smalley (821-4437) and Tracy Young (559-6771).
Footsteps is a class designed to assist members in fulfilling their purpose and call from God by nurturing their spirit through God’s word. The class offers an environment of closeness, fellowship and trust in which to explore their God-given gifts and talents, and comes together as the Body of Christ to reach out to others through various outreach and mission projects. The opportunity to lead single and ongoing studies is encouraged and often rotated throughout the class to those who feel led to do so. Generations is a class that studies different Bible topics, each lasting three to six months. Many in the class take turns leading the weekly lesson, thereby providing an opportunity to teach on a periodic basis. This class is open to single or married adults and children of the class members. The lessons offer a wide range of views which lead to interesting discussions on the study and its relationship to current events in our lives. Members also enjoy monthly outings to area restaurants, potluck dinners and other activities to which children are also invited. Grace Full Living bases its study on the belief that a careful handling and study of God’s Word will address every need we have by providing guidance and hope. This often involves studies that engage in a verse-by-verse exposition alternating between Old and New Testament books. The teaching is accessible and designed to help all of us enjoy graceful living. This class meets in Room A102 and the contact person is Steve Sartain (444-4200).
Living Stones is a class which uses a video-based series, hosted by historian and author Ray Vander Laan, that takes viewers to archaeological sites few people ever see. Geographical and historical contexts of the Bible take on powerful relevance for present-day believers in this class. This class meets in the Conference Room across from the AUMC Library and the contact people are Tom Uzzell (501-4277) and Patricia Stevenson (826-3742).
Fellowship is a class that focuses on going through life together, as the first Christians did. This member-led discussion class includes topics such as Bible study, Christian discipleship and growth. The class participates in several annual outreach projects and has quarterly socials to include the whole family. This class meets in Room A106 and the contact person is Jeff Clary (559-0366).
Open Hands is a Bible study class led by Gigi Blalock. The class includes couples and singles of all ages, and places a strong emphasis on fellowship, care and concern for each member. This class meets in Room B237 and the contact people are Gene and Reeder Dulaney (887-7908).
Pathfinders is a discussion-oriented group comprised of single adults in their 20s and early 30s who work in the local area or attend graduate school. Topical lessons are most frequently used. This class meets in Room B234 and the contact person is Scott Couch (826-4079).
Searchers is a class that uses Barclay’s Commentary for Bible Study and is led by a variety of class members who emphasize discussion and sharing. The atmosphere is informal and visitors are welcome. Several of the women in this group also meet Sunday evenings for a Bible study. This class is open to all ages and includes several fellowship events each year. Serendipity is a small class for women of varying ages. The format is an informal discussion based on material chosen by the class. This class meets in the Parlor Room in the basement and the contact person is Gabi Darch (821-9664).
Sojourners is a class of couples and singles studying God’s Word and applying its eternal truths to their walk with Christ. The class format is a lecture/discussion led by Phillip Tyler and Bill Felkey. Sojourners has occasional socials throughout the year to nurture their fellowship. Young Couples focuses on biblical principles as tools for building a foundation for establishing and maintaining a strong Christian marriage. This class is taught by Jay and Angie Jacobs.
