Senior Adult Ministries

Service Opportunities

This ministry feels that just because you’re retired, doesn’t mean you have to stop serving! Our older adults are among the most active group of volunteers at AUMC. Check out the list of opportunities below and contact the Older Adult Ministries Director Lynn Jackson at 826-8800, Ext. 281 or lynnj@aumc.net to get involved.

Cleanliness Ministry

This outreach ministry consists of collecting donations of soap, shampoo, deodorant, lotion, etc. to be given to local service agencies and organizations for people in need. Travel size items are especially useful. Items can be turned in any time at the Mathison Lobby reception desk.

EASE House Outreach

The East Alabama Service to the Elderly home provides life-sustaining care to elderly and disabled individuals to help them remain independent as long as possible. This home is for senior citizens age 62 or older who are considered low income. AUMC partners with the East Alabama Service to the Elderly by reaching out to EASE House residents through monthly bingo games and other encouraging fellowship. Please check the weekly AUMC newsletter for upcoming EASE House outreach events.

Oak Park Ministry

Volunteers reach out to residents living in the facility. A Bible Study for those living in the apartments is held weekly. Subsittute teachers are needed. A worship service is held the first Sunday of each month for Health Care residents. Volunteers play the piano, assist with tasks and visit with residents.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

This unique ministry reaches out to people in our community who are sick or grieiving. If you knit, crochet or quilt, join us as we make shawls to be given to comfort these friends in need. These shawls are prayed over by the group and provide comfort, encouragement and prayer to individuals who are hurting. The group meets the first Thursday of each month at 1:00pm in the Conference Room, Room B-160.
