Domestic Missions
Though Auburn may seem like a sheltered community, we know that there are people in need all around us. AUMC cares for our community and our region through several domestic mission projects, and we invite you to join us and get involved in showing Christ’s love to others in the most practical of ways.
Cleaning Bucket Ministry -- Donate now to prepare for winter storms!
With the recent storms in various parts of the South, AUMC has sent several "cleaning buckets" full of supplies generally needed to clean a home after storm damage. These buckets are donated by our members and much appreciated by the families who receive them. In fact, AUMC is now the housing facility for cleaning buckets for the eastern part of our church conference. We are committed to keeping several dozen of these relief buckets on hand to be ready for future emergencies, especially with summer storm season upon us. Check out the lnk below to learn more about how easy it is to assemble and donate a cleaning bucket to a family in need!
Care Construction
Care Construction is the local home repair ministry of AUMC. Each month, we get together to do some small repair jobs at the home of a local resident in need. We meet at the Mission Shop (behind the AUMC Annex) at 8:00 a.m. and work until mid-afternoon. No experience or tools required! Just bring a sack lunch (we provide water) and a desire to make a difference! Sign-up for the next workday by contacting Keith Foster at keithf@aumc.net or 826-8800.
Emergency Response Team
AUMC has formed a trained emergency response team who is ready to be activated immediately following a disaster. Training is available for anyone who desires to meet immediate needs following natural disasters such as hurricanes and tornados in our regions. Early Disaster Response Trainings (ERT)
Early Response Team Training-Saturday January 28, 2012 at AUMC
Be prepared to respond to the next disaster. Early response training covers the basics of early disaster response, including roof tarping, cleaning out damaged homes, spiritual and emotional care, team protocols, and more. Proper credentials are required for individuals and teams responding in the first few days after a disaster. Participants who successfully complete this training will receive those credentials, including an ERT badge. The cost of this training is $20 (includes lunch)
Trainings are open to all people ages 18+. All participants must either have a background check done ($9) or bring proof of a background check from an employer or church.
Contact Glenn Glover for more information at glover@auburn.edu or 703-1115.
Red Cross Shelter
AUMC is designated as a local Red Cross Shelter during times of emergency. During such times, volunteers are needed to serve those seeking refuge.
We also participate in local work projects with Care Construction, Alabama Rural Ministries, and Habitat for Humanity, to assist our community with basic construction needs. Workdays for these ministries are posted in the weekly AUMC newsletter and are open to anyone desiring to serve our community.
